New Home Permits see 10% increase in Kansas City Area

The Kansas City metro area is experienced nearly a 10 percent increase in new permits over last year.

In the eight-county metro area, 2,262 housing permits were pulled through November. In the entire 2009 there were a total of 2,155.

Experts predicted that the nation would average a 10 percent growth this year. This puts the Kansas City metro area on target.

Kansas City led permitting this year with 442 units, followed by Olathe (335), Overland Park (182) and Kansas City, Kansas / Wyandotte County (160).

Johnson County accounted for 30 percent of metro-area permits through November (586 units), Clay County accounted for 25 percent (485 units), and Jackson County accounted for 16 percent (312 units). Those three counties made up 71 percent of new home construction through the first 11 months of 2010.
